The process of qualification begins with an application through the My Aged Care portal, where individuals or their families can register and receive a referral for an ACAT or RAS assessment. During the assessment, the care assessor visits the applicant’s home or hospital, asking questions about their health, daily activities, and preferences. After the assessment, a recommendation is made regarding the type and level of care they qualify for. If eligible, the individual is placed on a waiting list for government-subsidized services, and they can choose a provider to begin receiving care, either at home or in a residential facility.
